Records of the Alumni Association of Oberlin College cover the period from 1839 to 1990. They document the formation, organization, programs of and activities of the Alumni Association in general. Included are constitutions, minutes, executive correspondence, reports, photographs, audio tapes, video tapes, slides, and memorabilia such as scrapbooks and class letters. Gaps in the record exist in many areas: Minutes for 1953 to 1956; club activities between 1966 and 1980; and files covering the duties of various officers other than the President. The bulk of the records document the years 1920-1962 and 1983-1990.

The history of the Alumni Association of Oberlin College falls into three phases: 1839-1920, 1920-1970, and 1970 to date. The Association of the Alumni of the Oberlin "Collegiate Institute" was founded in 1839. The Association conducted no formal activities during these early years, but did attempt to raise funds for the college and recruit students.
